Comparatively, she noted that the region recorded 58 cases of crashes in 2024, down from 64 cases reported in 2023 within the same period, a reduction of 22 percent.

The crashes killed 15 people in 2024, compared to 23 deaths recorded in the first half of 2023, representing a 35 percent reduction. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Goaso, the Ahafo Regional capital, Ms. Apronti said 87 vehicles, comprising commercial, private, and motorcycles, were involved in the 2024 crashes, compared to 101 vehicles involved in the previous year’s crashes.

However, she mentioned that the region experienced a sharp increase in pedestrian knockdowns, with 20 reported cases in the first half of 2024, compared to eight cases in 2023, a 150 percent increase. Additionally, 103 persons were injured in 2024, compared to 96 injuries within the same period in 2023, a seven percent increase.

Ms. Apronti said the Authority had intensified road safety education outreaches in schools, churches, bus terminals, and local communities to sensitise the masses about the “Stay Alive” campaign to help bring the crashes under control. Additionally, the Authority has inaugurated various District Road Committees to undertake road safety education outreaches at the district levels.
