Parliament has announced that it will on Saturday, August 31, host the 2024 edition of the Speaker's Seminal Lecture.

According to Parliament, the event will commence at the Dr Andani Andan Academic Board Chamber, University for Development Studies in Tamale, Northern Region.

The lecture is under the theme: "Working Together, Building Trust for a Free, Fair, Credible, and Peaceful Elections 2024: The Role of Stakeholders."

This was contained in a press statement signed and issued by the Public Affairs Division of Parliament.

It stated that the lecture will be delivered by Professor Kwesi Aning, a distinguished scholar and expert in security, governance, and international relations and the Vice President of IMANI-Africa, Kofi Bentil.

The statement further said that the Speaker's Seminal Lecture series will serve as a platform for dialogue on critical national issues, promote understanding, collaboration, and transparency in governance.

“This year's theme reflects the importance of unity and trust among all stakeholders—political parties, civil society, the media, security agencies, and citizens—in upholding democratic values and ensuring peaceful elections,” the statement read.

Additionally, the statement said the event will bring together Members of Parliament, government officials, representatives from political parties, civil society organisations, academia, the diplomatic community and the media.

“We look forward to a thought-provoking and impactful lecture that will foster collaboration and trust among all stakeholders as we work towards free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections in 2024,” the statement added.
